Summary

Doma is a companion app for Doma smart door hardware. The hardware connects to the cloud independently; the app lets you view door status and send commands. The app also uses Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband to communicate directly with your door for hands-free proximity unlocking.

We do not use advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. We do not sell your data.

What the App Does

Doma is a thin client for Doma door hardware. The hardware reports its state (locked/unlocked, open/closed) to the Doma cloud. The app reads that state via APIs and displays it. When you send a command (lock, unlock, open, close), the app sends it to the cloud, which relays it to the hardware.

The app also connects directly to your door via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for hands-free proximity unlocking. These wireless connections are device-to-door only — no location or proximity data is sent to our servers.

Information We Collect

Account information. Your email address and password, managed by AWS Cognito. You may also sign in with Google, in which case we receive your email from Google. Passwords are never stored in plaintext. Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.

Door data. Door identifiers, state, and firmware version — all reported by the hardware to the cloud. The app reads this via API.

Commands. When you tap lock/unlock/open/close, the command is sent to the cloud and relayed to the hardware.

Proximity data (on-device only). UWB distance/direction and BLE signal strength are processed in real time on your iPhone to detect when you're near your door. This data is never sent to our servers.

Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, we store the token Apple provides to deliver door alerts.

Device Permissions

iOS requires the following permissions for the app to function:

Bluetooth — Discover and connect to your door hardware.
Nearby Interaction (UWB) — Measure distance and direction for hands-free unlock.
Location (When In Use) — Required by iOS for Bluetooth and UWB to function. Your coordinates are not sent to our servers.
Camera — Scan QR codes during door setup.
Face ID — Optionally protect access to door controls. Biometric data stays on-device in the Secure Enclave.

BLE and UWB run in the background so proximity unlock works when the app is not in the foreground. These technologies are used exclusively for device-to-door communication, not for tracking.

How We Protect Your Information

All server communication uses TLS encryption. Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain. AWS Cognito encrypts credentials at rest. BLE communication with doors uses an encrypted channel. UWB and BLE proximity data stays on-device.

Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information. Our infrastructure:

AWS — Authentication (Cognito) and backend APIs.
Apple Push Notification service — Notification delivery.
Google Sign-In — Optional sign-in (only if you choose it).

No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs are included in the app.

Data Retention and Deletion

Account data is retained while your account is active. To delete your account and all associated data, email support@domahome.com. Deletion requests are processed within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

Doma is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing support@domahome.com.

California (CCPA): We do not sell personal information.

Europe (GDPR): We process data to provide the service you signed up for (contract performance).

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via email.
